Player: Saledo has donated some of his MS Azure Cloud space to host the site. Thank you so much!

There should be much improvement including immunity from power failures and slower performance when multiple users are using the site at the exact same time.

All databases are now recording timestamps of UTC date/time. All previous timestamps were updated using a script I wrote. The script took into account of timestamps that occured during Daylight Savings Time and adjusted those times correctly, too.

Previously it would record the time of my local time zone, which is -5 GMT (or -4 GMT for Daylight Savings Time).

Pages that displays date/times of when a record was added or updated in the database (Beer, Tattoo, Voids, Mushrooms) would previously display the timestamps of MY timezone.

That's confusing to players as the date/time might appear to be several hours in the future or past from their local time zone.

Now that we have consistent timestamps of UTC (immune to Daylight Savings Time), I've also written some Javascripts that will display the UTC timestamp into YOUR local time zone.

For example, if you look at Mushroom page, it might show a sighting added 20 minutes ago. The time displaying will literally show it as 20 minutes ago on YOUR time zone. This makes things less confusing. I hope you all like this feature.

I've switched Internet providers today. New upload speeds (how fast you can download from me) is now 50 Mbps, up from 6 Mbps.
You should notice improved speeds, especially loading tiles on Egypt Map!

Unlrelated, but my new download speed (me surfing the internet) is up from 60 Mpbs to 1 Gbps - and I'm paying $90 less per month than I used to (but this includes my cable channels, too, just saying) ...

How do I feel about the ^ above ^ sentence?

Web Server (heh, aka my PC) has been upgraded to Samsung EVO 860 SSD 1 Tb Drive. Hence the response/load times should be greatly improved from the 'old school' 500 Gb spinning 5400 rpm disc drive :)

This site now routes through CloudFlare.com CDN. See 10 Quick CloudFlare Benefits
  • HTTP/2 Protocol
  • SSL encrypted traffic
  • Image Optimization
  • Decreased Load Time & Improved Caching - Majority of content will be eventually be cached (crawled weekly) and served directly from Cloudfare's fast servers
  • Should my webserver go offline temporarily (ie reboot, power outage), some (just static) webpages can still be viewed through Cloudflare and it's cached content
  • Optimized Network Routing - Cloudflare has servers all over the world. You automatically connect to closest location
  • DoS and DDoS protection

    July 11, 2017:

    Greetings Egyptians,

First, I'd like to apologize for the site being down the past couple of months.

I've enjoyed hosting the site and supporting the game on a fast server at GoDaddy.com the past several years.
Unfortunately my budget doesn't allow this luxury anymore.

I do still have the means to keep the site running, but on a very limited scale.
I'm going "old school" and having the site run off my home PC which is connected to broadband.
My upload speed (how fast you can download from me) is 6.0 Mbps so it should be sufficient.

My site requires a Windows Server (IIS) and the good thing is that all copies of Windows have a personal edition of IIS.
The down side is that personal IIS only allows 10-20 concurrent connections to the site. I believe it's 20, but it might be 10.

Concurrent connections are how many people can access the website at the exact same moment in time. I'm assuming this will be better than nothing.

While my PC never shuts down, there are always times it will need rebooted for windows updates; subject to power failures during storms, I forgot to pay bill, etc.

What all of this means, is the site is up, but beware there might be times it's temporarily not accessbile, so just check back or refresh your page if it times out.

    Cheers!

    Mike (Cegaiel)
